Medical and Research Facility
We are glad to share the unique history and features of the medical facility of the institute. It began with the establishment of the Komi branch in the Kirov state medical academy in 1996.
The creation of a branch for training specialists with higher medical education. Because, the rapidly increasing migration of the population, including doctors, out of the republic in the early 1990s due to a sharp decline in living standards in the North.
The most significant migration outflow occurred between 1993 and 1997. The sharply increased outflow of specialists with higher medical education, the abolition of non-competitive admission of young people from Komi to medical universities in Russia, the abolition of the state-funded placement system for university graduates, and the subsequent failure of the contract-based system of specialist training at medical universities in Russia led to a critical situation with the supply of doctors to the Republic’s healthcare facilities. This situation prompted the Government of the Republic of Komi to petition the Russian Ministry of Health and the State Committee for Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Russian Federation in 1994 to open a branch of a medical university in Syktyvkar to train local young doctors.
